Next Project - Setting Sun Doily from Priscilla Doilies Book No. 324

I love this old pattern.  I made this many years ago with peach colored knit cro sheen and a rather large hook. It would be so much nicer with  finer thread in an ivory color. I have some beautiful Olympus Thread No. 40, which is about the same as size 20. It should be about 21" completed with #20 thread.  I'd like to get some finer Olympus thread soon, it's so lovely to work.
The edging is similar to the recently completed Corticelli Doily, but much prettier and more detailed. Although the doily is shown with the edge slightly ruffled, it works just as well flat.

When I was  about 19, I managed to adapt just the border edging for a pillow case edging using size 30 thread. I gave it to my mother for her birthday.  She always said she wanted some really nice pillow case lace. She put the lace in her dresser drawer and never used it of course! (You know, that drawer where mothers put all those gifts that are "too nice to use".)

UPDATE!! Free Vintage Crochet has recently uploaded this pattern.

Queen Anne's Lace Doily Moving Along

The Queen Anne Doily is progressing.

I am working from this pattern in the "Coats & Clarks Priscilla Doilies Book No. 111"
Specifically, Image No. 7 and Image No. 13
There are lots of pretty patterns in this book.  Please check the rest of the album.

Corticelli Venetian Pattern Doily from 1918

I am working the "Venetian Pattern Doily" pictured to the right on this webpage.
Crochet Galore just finished a crochet along for the doily pictured on the left.

It will look like this when completed:

I have one ball of size 10 Coats & Clarks Opera thread which is discontinued and thought that this pattern would just use up this ball of thread. Using #6 hook.
Also, I had a really bad cold so did not want to work with fine thread while sneeezing all the time.
The #10 Opera thread is very soft and shiny with a nice twist. It's super easy, like working with yarn.
I've just started Round 10 and it's 6½" in diameter.

The only pattern problem I had so far was round 3. 80 Trebles are required to complete this round. The instructions as written result in less than 80. One must crochet trebles in the 14 loops and 14 trebles of Round two to total 80 trebles in round three. Once the pattern is complete, I will list any tweaks I made.

With a #6 hook, round nine (220 Trebles) came out too full - it was quite ripply. I frogged it and did it again with a size 5 hook and it came our just right, then switched back to #6 hook.

Queen Anne's Lace Doily in Progress

A friend of mine loves Queen Anne's Lace. She has a sentimental attachment from her childhood in Indiana.
So I am making a Queen Anne's Lace Doily for her birthday.  Here it is completed through round 13:

This is how it will look when complete:

Worked with size 30 thread and a #10 hook it is 17 inches in diameter.  I am using size 20 thread and a #9 hook, it will probably be about 20" when blocked.  (My friend likes bigger doilies.)
This is an extremely easy pattern and rather repetitious.  It only has a few stitches: chain, single and various  trebles.  It would be a great practice piece for someone who would like to try thread crochet and work with trebles.  It is definitely not challenging work!

 + + + UPDATE + + +
To those who enquired about the pattern, it is posted at momsloveofcrochet.com.
I am not using that website for my pattern, I'm working from a photo of the pattern in a vintage booklet.   I will search for this pattern in my collection and make a nice scan.  (For the purists.) :-)

Hippy Colors Coin Purse with Zipper Closure

This is crocheted with Coats & Clark Royale thread #10 and a #5 hook.  Click on the photo for actual size which is 5" x 3½"   The fabric is dense, strong and seamless so needs no lining as a coin purse.  The thread is color fast so one can toss it in the wash if it gets grubby.  I made something similar worked in the round many years ago, I've been using it to carry a comb, chapstick and such doohickeys for years and years.  These things are indestructible. Plus it's easy to find in the bottom of a bag.  I prefer these colors worked in the round because it grows into swirls of color with an especially cheerful effect. I added the little wrist strap for extra utility. It can be zipped inside if not needed.

"Cluny Lace" Motif for Tablecloth, Runner, Chair Set

This is a good piece to practice some more complex instructions - this one has a few extra turns. This sample was made as gift for a friend who wanted a tiny doily. It was made with DMC Cebelia #10 thread and an 8 or 9 hook and measured 6 inches across. This makes and elegant and sturdy dresser scarf or table runner.

Here are the instructions for the motif.  I'll post the entire pattern shortly, which includes instructions for joining motifs.
ENJOY

*UPDATE*
Here are the rest of the instructions.  Click on the photo for a super large image.

Elegant and Easy Doily

This was worked with #20 Thread Coats & Clarks Big Ball and #10 hook and measures 9¼ inches point to point. The pattern is from Coats & Clarks Book No. 285 "All Time Favorites" published in 1980.

I believe this pretty old pattern may be in the public domain, it was once featured in "Old Time Crochet". I haven't found the pattern on the web yet.
The 1980 patternbook called Red Heart Lustersheen, a size 5 hook and measured 19 inches across. I made the pattern once with a cotton and rayon yarn, and a size 2 hook. It measured about 23 inches across.

It works up quickly. If you want to make an elegant doily and time is short, this is a good choice. It's best worked firmly so the pattern is well delineated.

Crocheted Pinwheel Tablecloth

This should work up quickly, the motifs are joined as you go, and no fill in motifs!
Work several motifs with the edging for an easy runner or doily.  This is a nice beginner pattern for someone to practice joining motifs with thread crochet.

Click below for complete instructions.
Enjoy!

Spider Lace Pillow Case Edging

This pattern works up quickly and is worked from a foundation chain of 29 stitches so it's quick and portable.

"Ballerina" Crocheted Tablecloth Pattern

Click on the Image to view a large image of the motif.  This is 5" across with #20 thread and size 9 hook. I made the motif for a friend who needed a little doily.

Click on the image below for the complete tablecloth instructions.  I think this is from a 1930's pattern book - I do not have the booklet cover.  Although the instructions are to join the motifs by sewing them together, they could probably be joined with slip stitches as they are completed and then completed with the fill in motifs.
